    CALL FOR WORLD MUSIC & DANCE PROPOSALS

    Are you an emerging BC-based world music artist or group seeking new performance opportunities and exposure to new audiences?

    OR

    Are you an established Canadian world music artist or group with a new project that you would like to present to a Vancouver audience such as a CD-release or new collaboration?

     If so, Caravan World Rhythms invites you to submit your musical proposals to us for possible inclusion in our programming series. Projects which include ethnocultural or contemporary dance with live music as a key part of the performance are also eligible.

     ABOUT CARAVAN WORLD RHYTHMS
    Caravan is a non-profit society that presents cultural events with a focus on the music and dance  from cultures around the world. Caravan also provides educational opportunities to the general public and emerging artists, and bridges Vancouver’s cultural communities through our events. We present 15-20 events a year in the Metro Vancouver region at a variety of venues, featuring local, Canadian, and international artists. We are also very active as part of a Canada-wide network of world music presenters.

     PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:

    As part of our programming series, we can offer the following opportunities:

     FOR EMERGING ARTISTS:

    -          There will be opportunities to be booked as an opening act for one of our upcoming events that would be an appropriate fit.

    -          If you have a fully developed project, Caravan can be a promotional co-presenter of your show, supporting production logistics/organization, and promotional activities.

     FOR ESTABLISHED ARTISTS WITH NEW PROJECTS:

    -          If you have a fully developed project, Caravan can be a promotional co-presenter of your show, supporting production logistics/organization, and promotional activities.

    -          We can organize a double-bill with another local or touring group that would be an appropriate fit.

     ELIGIBILITY

    Eligible applicants (individual or group) must:

    • Be residents of British Columbia, and be actively pursuing professional musical work. Applicants from other parts of Canada will be considered if they are planning to tour British Columbia in 2018 or 2019.
    • Have a musical project or expertise based in non-mainstream world music/cultural tradition, or combination of traditions. This can include traditional and contemporary genres of music, but not popular genres such as pure rock, pop or EDM.  Your project may also include dance as part of your project (e.g. – African dance, flamenco dance, fusion, etc…).
    • Have musical training in their cultural specialty.

    HOW TO APPLY

    Artistic Information:

    • A short description of your music, tradition and style (up to 150 words).

    • BRIEF Biographies of the main artists including professional training and achievements, a list of the artists and instruments in the group, and performance and recording history (up to 150 words)

    • A representative recording of your music, such as online video or audio, or downloadable mp3.
