ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

ADANU HABOBO
A 14-member diverse powerhouse of drummers and dancers that play traditional drum/dance music from Ghana. Led by Kofi Gbolonyo and Curtis Andrews, they strive to share their love of Ghanaian music and culture with the people of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. For this performance, Adanu will be joined by special guest artist AWAL ALHASSAN, master dancer from Ghana who will light up the stage with his electrifying moves and charisma. Also, a 4-piece horn ensemble will be on-board to play arrangements of traditional songs to accompany the dances!

ZHAMBAI TRIO
Mbira (thumb piano) music from Zimbabwe led by master player Kurai Mubaiwa, performing ancient melodies and original tunes.

ALPHA YAYA DIALLO & BOUJOU
Alpha Yaya Diallo is a three-time Juno winning multi-talented artist whose dextrous guitar-playing, with its fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves, places him in the front ranks of African musicians in Canada. He is joined by the soulful singing and virtuosic kora playing (21-string African harp) from a newly arrived Senegalese musician, Boujou, who comes from a family of master musicians.
