Caravan world Rhythms is excited to be collaborating with Coastal Jazz Society to co-present one of West Africa’s rising stars and guitar genius, Vieux Farka Touré.

Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré, who died in 2006. Vieux has since stepped out from his late father’s shadow and has received critical acclaim all over the world. His stage performances are renowned, and he has enthralled audiences with his warmth and energy. Tearing off screeds of his orientally-flavoured guitar, Vieux takes the desert blues into a more rocking direction. At times the hypnotic grooves of his music acquire a psychedelic tinge, elsewhere they affirm his connection to tradition.  Vieux is also known for his critically-acclaimed collaboration with Israeli superstar Idan Raichel: The Tel Aviv Sessions. This year, Vieux is preparing to release another unexpected, genre-bending collaborative album, this time with New York-based singer Julia Easterlin, aptly titled ‘Touristes’.  With each new project, Vieux expands his horizons, embraces new challenges and further entrenches his reputation as one of the world’s most talented and innovative musicians.
