Explosive and passionately creative; dancer Fiona Malena and her live music Flamenco ensemble engage in a rich new work exploring the influence of Indian, Arabic, Jewish and Latin cultures.
Previously touring countries such as Israel, Mexico and Spain, Canadian-born dancer Fiona will come back to Canada after an extensive tour through the UK. “Puertas” is her latest production and Vancouver is the third stop on the Western Canada tour.

Based in Seville, Spain and strongly rooted in the tradition of flamenco, the ensemble blends world-music, rhythms and unique and captivating instruments such as Hang Drum, Sitar, Arabic Flute, among others. Their performances have recently led to consecutive sold-out concerts in Spain, where they perform frequently in Flamenco “peñas” and other performance venues.
“Puertas” is a story centered on 4 doors, portals to a distinct cultures: Indian, Jewish, Arabic and Latin. Enhanced by unique elements, such as world instruments, video projection, digital technology and the entrancing sounds of Flamenco guitar, the dancers and musicians tell a story of each culture in a beautiful artistic dialogue.
